Virginia Beach Department of Economic Development Receives Award from International Economic Development Council

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (Sept. 28, 2023) – The Virginia Beach Department of Economic Development received a 2023 Excellence in Economic Development Award from the International Economic Development Council (IEDC), specifically for the organization’s work in the following categories:

Category 23: Partnerships with Educational Institutions
- Silver Award: Partnerships with Virginia Wesleyan University and Tidewater Community College for Talent Innovation
Category 14: Entrepreneurship
- Bronze Award: The HIVE - Virginia Beach Business Resource Center
Category 6: Magazine & Newsletter
- Bronze Award: The HIVE Monthly Newsletter

Ihsane Mouak, project development manager with the Virginia Beach Department of Economic Development, was acknowledged and honored at the IEDC 2023 Annual Conference during the inaugural Recognition Night event in Dallas, Texas, Sept. 19.

Each year, IEDC looks specifically for economic development organizations, government entities, initiatives, and programs that have demonstrated consistent, exemplary performance in the economic development profession, leading the execution of projects that have a significant impact on revitalizing communities, and play a major role in shaping and improving the practice of economic development.

“This is a tremendous honor for the Virginia Beach Department of Economic Development and the City of Virginia Beach,” said Chuck Rigney, interim director for Virginia Beach Economic Development. “We are proud that our team is being recognized for assisting our community in creating high-quality jobs and improving the quality of life in Virginia Beach.”

IEDC represents more than 4,800 members and is the largest association for professional economic developers in the world. Thousands of professionals attended IEDC’s annual conference in Dallas last week to hear experts on topics such as leadership development, supporting entrepreneurship and economic transformation, according to the release.
