October 21, 2014
Aetna Insulated Wire, a major producer of specialty cable and building wire for commercial and industrial applications, has expanded its manufacturing operations in Virginia Beach. The company occupies 380,000 square feet at 1537 Air Rail Blvd. and employs approximately 115 people.
The addition of one product line and the expansion of another manufacturing segment spurred the creation of 25 new jobs at Aetna, a Marmon Engineered Wire & Cable/Berkshire Hathaway company.
The manufacturing plant incorporates the latest technology in wire drawing, stranding, insulating, cabling, armoring and jacketing. Aetna has one of the largest armoring facilities in the country, allowing it to fulfill specialized armoring requirements in a matter of weeks. The manufacturing facility is fully equipped to manufacture not only standard cable configurations, but special orders as well.
“We are extremely pleased Aetna Insulated Wire has expanded in Virginia Beach and is providing more jobs for our people,” said Warren D. Harris, director of Virginia Beach Economic Development. “This expansion continues our growth in the manufacturing sector, which has gained national recognition.”
Aetna has been part of the Virginia Beach community since 1976. Factors that contributed to Aetna expanding in Virginia Beach included the availability of the high quality retired military and veteran workforce and the growth capacity in the company’s local facility.
