Healthcare

Our region's hospital system is continuously expanding.

Hampton Roads' largest provider, Sentara Healthcare, operates, seven acute-care hospitals in the region, including one of the best cardiac facilities in the world. U.S. News and World Report has consecutively ranked Sentara Norfolk General among America's Best Hospitals for more than a decade.

In addition to the Sentara facilities, there are eight other full-service acute-care hospitals in Hampton Roads, with some offering long-term care. Hampton Roads is also home to the public teaching facility of Eastern Virginia Medical School and Children's Hospital of King's Daughters, Virginia's only free-standing, full-service pediatric hospital.

Other healthcare resources in the immediate area include LifeNet Health, a nonprofit, procurement organization, the Hampton University Proton Therapy Institute, the only such cancer treatment center of its kind in Virginia, and Urology of Virginia, a Virginia Beach-based cancer treatment, care, and physical therapy center.
