Curtis Cobert has joined the Virginia Beach Department of Economic Development as a business development manager. His primary responsibility will be to assist in the management and administration of the YesOceana.com program. He will serve as a liaison on business relocation matters related to the City’s Oceana compliance efforts and APZ-1 issues. The YesOceana.com program promotes compatible business development in areas surrounding Naval Air Station Oceana.
Cobert received a master’s degree in urban and regional planning from Virginia Commonwealth University. His thesis, which was based on comparing various economic development indicators and surrounding public school performance, was accepted to the 2013 University Council for Education Administration conference for presentation. He also earned a bachelor of arts degree in mass communications from Virginia Commonwealth University. Additionally, he was a research intern with the Greater Richmond Partnership.
“Curtis brings a fresh perspective and great research skills to the YesOceana.com program,” said Warren D. Harris, Economic Development director. “We anticipate he will help the department expand our contacts and interest in this innovative and award-winning program.”
The mission of the Virginia Beach Department of Economic Development is to attract and retain national and international businesses to stimulate capital investment and create jobs. The Department houses the YesOceana.com program, which was designed to protect Virginia Beach’s citizens and keep the Navy’s East Coast Master Jet base by encouraging conforming businesses to locate around Naval Air Station Oceana. Due in large part to the success of the program, Virginia Beach was named the “Active Base Community of the Year” in 2010 by the Association of Defense Communities.
