Huntington Ingalls Industries Subsidiary AMSEC LLC to Move Headquarters in Virginia Beach

May 11, 2012

AMSEC LLC, a subsidiary of Huntington Ingalls Industries, has announced plans to move its headquarters in Virginia Beach. Currently located at 2829 Guardian Lane, the company will move operations to 5701 Cleveland St. and will occupy half of the 126,000-square-foot building.
AMSEC LLC was founded in Virginia Beach in 1981. The company was a wholly owned subsidiary of Northrop Grumman, Newport News Shipbuilding, but was sold to Huntington Ingalls as part of a larger acquisition associated with the Newport News Shipbuilding purchase in March 2011. AMSEC is a full-service supplier to the Navy and the commercial maritime industry. The company provides naval architecture and marine engineering, naval ship systems assessments, maintenance engineering, waterfront maintenance support, acquisition program support, shipyard industrial engineering and C4I installation and support services. AMSEC also provides life-cycle integrated logistics services, including technical manual development, provisioning documentation, spare parts management, training development and delivery, and software development.

AMSEC LLC entered into a 10-year lease with Olympia Development Corporation for its new corporate headquarters, and ODC plans to invest $2.925 million in capital improvements in the building.

“We’re pleased to keep our headquarters in Virginia Beach,” said Harris Leonard, Huntington Ingalls Industries’ vice president and president of AMSEC operations. “We believe this move will make us more effective in serving our customers, as well as providing easier access to our facility.”

“This is a substantial win for the city,” said Warren Harris, director of Virginia Beach Economic Development. “By keeping this strong corporate leader in Virginia Beach, we retain 250 high-paying jobs and will gain approximately 35 new jobs created over the next 36 months.”

It is anticipated that the new jobs will have annual salaries that average $57,570 excluding benefits.

Based on the capital investment and the number of jobs created, the Virginia Beach Development Authority has authorized a grant of $100,000 under the Economic Development Investment Program.

The mission of the Virginia Beach Department of Economic Development is to attract and retain national and international business and industry that results in the creation of new capital investment and jobs that increase the per capita income in the community. The City of Virginia Beach is the most populous city in the Commonwealth of Virginia with a population of 434,000 and is the 39th largest city in the United States. The City of Virginia Beach is recognized as the best run cities in America, by 24/7 Wall Street in 2012, and in 2011, Virginia Beach ranked number one for economic growth potential by Business Facilities. In 2012, the Department of Economic Development received re-accreditation through the International Economic Development Council, one of only 29 economic development organizations in the world to have this recognition. In 2011, the Department won an Award of Excellence for its marketing efforts from the International Economic Development Council. For more information, visit www.yesvirginiabeach.com.
