Luxury motor coach service provider, Rapid Overland Xpress, also known as The ROX, will start rolling this spring with help from an Economic Development Incentive Program grant (EDIP) of $110,000 the Virginia Beach Development Authority awarded the company.
The ROX will provide luxury roundtrip transportation between Virginia Beach and Northern Virginia/Washington D.C. with two daily non-stop roundtrips from Westin Town Center to Pentagon City. The company will have its offices and vehicle storage in a 5600 sq. ft. facility at 1140 Loretta Lane, which is in APZ-1. The company plans to add 50 new jobs with average salaries, exclusive of benefits, of $50,000. The award of the EDIP grant was based on the company's capital investment of $3,275,000 and the job creation.
"Adding a transportation service of this quality between Virginia Beach and Washington is a tremendous benefit for residents and visitors alike, starting with not having to drive on I-95 or find a place to park," said Economic Development Director Taylor Adams. "The ROX allows greater access and increased convenience."
The City Council put the EDIP program in place 26 years ago to help qualifying companies with their growth needs. Economic Development Department staff work with potential award seekers to evaluate a business' potential to qualify for an award and the VBDA administers the program. Awards are not guaranteed. Criteria for awards is based on a number of factors, from the amount of capital investment and/or job creation over a 36-month period to whether the company will locate in the APZ-1 area or is among the City's target industry sectors.
"The City of Virginia Beach's support and confidence in The ROX is gratifying and appreciated," said The ROX founder Jeffrey McWaters, a former Virginia state senator and AMERIGROUP founder/CEO. "This commitment from the City helps us to provide a service that better links business and leisure travelers in two of the state's largest economic and tourism centers as well as add employment opportunities to our community."
When The ROX starts rolling, it will feature 22 luxury first-class seats and amenities such as an on-board attendant/concierge, free and ample luggage space, on-board meals and snacks, free media streaming and wi-fi services, phone charging stations at every seat and ample seat and leg room.
